Sometime ago, I was given the responsibility to do up the decor for a cocktail party!! I instantly had a brainwave of using beer bottles in the decor. I started off by collecting as many beer bottles as I could and thought of doing up every corner differently.
So I used leftover coloured wool to drape some bottles in…and placed them on a stand made of bamboo and the top is made of a thermocol sheet…A single gerbera stick in each and doesn’t it look lovely…?I got a few bottles spray painted in white and red and painted messages on them…a few accessories put together like pine cones and candles….The bottles have been placed on huge tiles balanced on a log… just added the pink satin and golden net bow to jazz up things…The bottles in front have been cut from the bottom and small tealights placed inside. The fence in front is made of cartons and white chartpaper…recycling is fun…isn’t it?
Another set of bottles were draped in jute rope and I stuck some artificial flowers to give it a Hawaiin look…the picture is not as clear as I would have liked but I am putting it up all the same…For the center piece I took some help and came up with this bamboo tree and hung the beer bottles with fairy lights inside on the branches..It looked lovely although the picture doesn’t do much justice…
For the center tables, I used glittered bottles…
I got a better picture of these later on…
I’ve been missing in action for quit some time now…I hope I’ll be able to make up for it.

Finally the BIG day dawned.I had my fingers crossed since everything was planned outdoors and the rain threat loomed large. Finally it rained just five minutes before the party began but thankfully it stopped just before the guests arrived only till the games got over and then it poured like hell.Consequently the food arrangements had to be shifted inside.
The smiles on the faces of the guests kids as well as adults assured me that everyone was having fun. And isn’t that what a party is all about?Having fun!Loads of fun…
The Birthday Gal!
The Dress up corner
The Live band
The other rockstars
The uncles and aunties having fun
Being 10 Rocks
And finally the pinata
Thank you for rocking the party
And before we put our feet up….a Family photu
In the last post, I mentioned that the invites, banner and centerpiece were done and I got down to thinking what else could be done with the theme.
The next thing that I plunged myself into was the Pinata for which the most obvious choice was a Guitar. I had some thermocol sheets lying around so I started working on them.It was a difficult task which I was to find out later as thermocol sheets took a long time and a lot of tape to fix.But in the end, I was quite happy with the result.Next up I shopped for some accessories which would make the party come alive.I was happy to find wigs, masks and fun glasses which went very well with the theme. For a party like this, a Photo Booth was a must. So after a lot of effort I came up with this idea executed with some help from the Hubby.
This proved to be the biggest attraction at the party as children and adults both had a lot of fun getting dressed up and clicked.
At the entrance I painted two cartons black to make them look like speakers.A red carpet was spread with black star cutouts on it.The month of July is the rainiest month and the day of the party we kept moving things indoors and outdoors again because the rains kept playing truant with us.That is why the stars on the carpet are so weary due to the carpet getting rolled up quite a few times.
I also cut out a lot of musical notes and pasted them on the balloons but couldn’t find a picture at all.
The Party pictures to follow in the next post..
Last month Munch turned 10!!
Yes, I too completed a decade of motherhood. That called for a big celebration but since Munch was busy with her exams in school we had to wait for another week till we could plan something. So this tenth birthday was planned in a week.We thought of a number of themes and then settled on a Rockstar Birthday Party.Last year she had an Alice in Wonderland theme .
First on my mind was that the invitations should go out as early as possible.Google proves very helpful when you are in a hurry and it worked for me too.
I quickly designed one with the help of Photoshop and made pink envelopes and used glitter pens to draw a guitar and some notes on it and the invites were ready to go.
Next I worked on a banner to go with the theme and I came up with this.Simple black chart paper cut into circles and printed letters of her name in pink stuck on each made them look like LPs.Easy and Quick.
I made this centerpiece using my junkies and a few cutouts of musical notes on coctail picks.
I was now full on into the theme and trying to follow it to the T..
Will be back with the rest of the preps later..
Till then..would love to know what all themes have you done for your kids birthday parties or do you like to keep it simple.Munch likes to invite her friends and have a party each time so I have to plan something new everytime . Between the two girls each year I feel I am too exhausted but once I begin there is no stopping me.
Yes I know I am late.I know no one uses Instagram anymore. But for a non techie and layman like myself..better late than never !!!I am enjoying myself.
May you always have walls for the winds,
a roof for the rain,
tea beside the fire,
laughter to cheer you,
those you love near you and all your heart might desire.
Walls speak volumes…and as they say walls have ears …I believe walls have a face and heart too.The walls in your home reflect a lot of emotions….and I love making my walls talk.
So the wall in our living room is a shelf wall.I did not put any painting s here since this way it gives me lots of flexibility. As with your soft furnishings, this kind of wall is changeable…every time you want to add a new theme to your room the wall also changes accordingly.
The next wall which I am still in the process of doing up is the Dining room wall…at present its a few classic quotes put together but I hope to add few other features soon.
The wall opposite this one is one with a mirror and console table and a few floating shelves on which the knick knacks keep changing as and when ‘yours truly’ desires. Another corner wall which I really love is a black chart paper cutout of a little girl framed in glass…done by a friend….Waiting for your opinions….on my walls.
Recently I ordered some planters online and completely forgot about them.Last week when the order arrived I was excited beyond words like a teeny weeny toddler on seeing his birthday gift. The planters had a soothing and refreshing colour tone.My mind started working overtime on where should I place these prized possessions and what should I plant in them.
As soon as I had finalised where I wanted them I had already thought of what I wanted to place in them. And thus began my search…I scoured the markets for what I wanted and TANTARANG…..Here it is..The pictures really don’t do justice to them. For now I’m in love with these.Waiting to hear from you all.
Day 4 was spent soaking up the spirit of Kolkata….the puchkas, the tram ride, the local train, the saree shopping(will do another post on that later),the Eden Garden, the Howrah bridge…..
